Open data initiatives, emerging nonprofit journalism models, and community engagement strategies as a focus for civic innovation.

About this Event

Charlottesville Tomorrow, Smart Cville, and UVa Data Science Institute in partnership with the Tom Tom Festival 2019 Civic Innovation Conference host this evening dialogue to explore the intersection of local government open data initiatives, emerging nonprofit journalism models, and community engagement strategies as a focus for civic innovation and public dialogue. Data alone cannot solve problems for local governments, but paired with dynamic public engagement efforts, data can help organize issues into policy frameworks that yield more accountable, transparent, and equitable systems.
