We are pleased to announce the election of three new members to our Board of Directors beginning in January 2019.
The new Board members are…
- Amanda Poncy (Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator, City of Chartlottesville)
- Devin Harris, Ph.D. (Assistant Professor Department of Engineering Systems and Environment, University of Virginia)
- Emily Kilroy (Director of Communications and Public Engagement, Albemarle County)
The 2018 Board felt incredibly lucky to have such respected and knowledgeable candidates. Given their talents, background, and community involvement, this cohort will add tremendous value to our organization and will be instrumental in helping prepare us for the next stage of organizational growth.
The new members will join existing members Lucas Ames, Seth Ragosta, Jim Duncan, Angela Orebaugh, and Doug Caldwell to compromise the Board in 2019.
Amanda Poncy is the Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator for the City of Charlottesville, VA, where she continues to pursue her interests in creating vibrant and healthy communities through sustainable transportation planning and community design. Amanda lives in the City with her family and spends her free time exploring local trails and helping with the Clark Elementary School PTO.
Devin Harris, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering Systems and Environment at UVA. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Florida and his graduate degrees at Virginia Tech, both in Civil Engineering (Structural). Devin is the Director of the Center for Transportation Studies, which is the focal point for education, research, and service in transportation engineering at UVA. CTS provides both research support services as well as transportation-focused education and training activities throughout the Commonwealth. His research centers on the built environment and aims to leverage data to create information, which can be used to inform decision-making. In his free time, Devin enjoys snowboarding, wakeboarding, boating, and spending time with family. Devin lives in Crozet with his wife and daughter.
Emily Kilroy is the Director of Communications & Public Engagement for Albemarle County. Emily’s team works to keep the community informed about how the County is working to support quality-of-life in Albemarle and designs people-centered engagement processes to ensure community input shapes important initiatives. Emily is keenly interested in how civic technology can advance community priorities. A Charlottesville resident for over a decade, Emily and her family love taking advantage of all of our urban and rural amenities.
