Smart Cville is a volunteer-driven organization.  However, we occasionally have opportunities for entrepreneurial, civic-minded, technologists to join our team. We do not currently have any openings.

Why we love the opportunity: The University is a critical member of the Charlottesville community. The Department of Engineering Systems and Environment is home to faculty and students dedicated to serving our society in areas ranging from public health to smart cities innovation.

UVA’s The Center for Diabetes Technology (CDT), Research Data Engineer
Why we love the opportunity: The University is a critical member of the Charlottesville community. The Research Data Engineer must have a strong desire to utilize their skill set to provide effective solutions in support of health care research. They will work with research partners (faculty, researchers, and clinical research staff) to execute programming and data cleaning and processing assignments.

The Database Administrator will maintain existing reports and analyze/evaluate the requirements for new modified reports/databases. The successful incumbent will consult with faculty and management to define data management needs and structures and confer with users to gain an understanding of needed changes or modifications of existing structures to support clinical research data needs.

Why we love the opportunity: The Residential Program Manager takes primary responsibility for convening and engaging the residential community. As the residential sector accounts for nearly one-third of greenhouse gas emissions in Charlottesville, this manager works to understand obstacles to action within this sector; provides hands-on support for homeowners and renters to take action in their own lives; advances a culture of climate action; and cultivates advocates for climate-friendly and equitable local policies.

Why we love the opportunity: This position will play an integral role in realizing the vision of the School of Data Science and advancing the mission to achieve excellence in data-driven research and education by solving important societal problems and providing the workforce of tomorrow.

Perrone Robotics, Senior Java Developer
Why we love the opportunity: Perrone Robotics is the company behind the first general-purpose robotics software platform for autonomous vehicles and robots. In this position, the candidate will need to be a skilled and experienced Java software developer, with experience in object-oriented software development, and knowledge of embedded Java software development, sensors, and robotics.
